Educating Seattle about Nuclear Power and it’s role along with other green energy sources for a better world.

Update: Nuclear Energy – What About The Waste
Tuesday, October 12,  2021,  7 pm (PST) to 9 pm

Nuclear power plants generate clean electricity – without CO2 emissions. They also create waste in the form of used nuclear fuel.

  • What is nuclear waste?
  • What are its hazards?
  • How is it stored today?
  • What are the long-term plans?
  • How much waste do we make?
  • What is the composition of nuclear waste?
  • How does it compare to fossil fuel waste?

Dr. James Conca is an environmental waste expert, Forbes.com contributor on energy and environmental issues and a nuclear waste scientist for over 30 years.

You are invited to a Zoom meeting.

When: Oct 12, 2021 07:00 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)

Seattle’s Stand Up For Nuclear

Seattle Friends of Fission is joining 40+ cities around the globe to recognize nuclear power’s clean, dependable, safe energy to fight climate change.

 Westlake Park (4th and Pike)

Saturday, September 18th, 2021, 11am to 4pm

Join us at the park or online (starting at 12 noon) to talk and share information. Click here to join on Youtube. Click here to join on Facebook.

  • Did you know that Washington is at risk for rolling blackouts during extreme heat events like we saw in June and August?
  • Seattle is going to need more clean energy to electrify our transportation.  Additionally, when drought reduces our hydropower,  that gap will need to be filled. Nuclear’s clean energy can supply these needs.
  •  Seattle Friends of Fission is proud to join Stand Up For Nuclear to tell people about the importance of nuclear power and dispel widespread myths about the technology.   Our participants are environmentalists, scientists, activists, engineers, and doctors.
  • For more information or to contact us go to our Facebook page.

Climate Change: The Future of Energy in Washington

Thursday, August 26, 7 PM – 9 PM PST

Join Seattle Friends of Fission for a lively discussion.

Governor Inslee has declared a drought emergency for Washington.
• Will our clean hydropower be sufficient to generate enough electricity?
• How much energy do we need for the future?
• Why nuclear power should be part of the solution.

Join Dr. James Conca for a discussion on how we will generate enough energy to cool our houses, run our electric vehicles, power our buses and light rail, move our products, etc., and reduce carbon emissions. Lots of time at the end for your questions.

Dr. Conca is an earth and environmental scientist specializing in geologic disposal of nuclear waste, energy-related research, and work on issues in space for 34 years. He’s been a consultant for the DOE, EPA/State Environmental agencies and industry companies including nuclear, hydro, wind farms, large solar arrays, coal and gas.
